I'm still struggling with this broadcast. Tonight I used my FRG-7700 for 139 minutes and got only 4,29% decoded audio. DReaM spurts audio when the SNR >14 dB. But the SNR average is below that most of the time. At least here.

Tomorrow I'll try this active ferrite antenna tuned to 6,03 MHz outside instead of lying on a table inside.

Were they off the air or was it my fault? No signal received at all here.

China 6030 kHz KiwiSDR reception Yokohama, Japan

Today's reception via the KiwiSDR web receiver in Yokohama, Japan. Audio decoding was 83.12% for the hour and then the auto time-out switched off the internet feed.

The transmitting antenna, according to HFCC, is a single element dipole quadrant antenna at 0.3 wavelengths high. This is essentially a "short" range NVIS antenna with a mostly high angle lobe. This means that at a distance the signal has to go through a myriad of constantly changing paths that cause destructive multi-path fading at the receiver. Although the signal maybe strong the decoding is difficult.

It appears that the receive antenna at this location favors a lower angle signal thereby reducing the multi-path effect.

Voice Of China with a regular test broadcast aimed for China logged for 641 minutes from 1123-2204 UTC. Max.16,22 dB SNR and 0,06% decoded audio.

A rather embarrassing result compared to the log from Yokohama. The antenna used was an active ferrite antenna tuned to 6.03 MHz. This antenna produced a slightly higher SNR than the modified PA0RDT active antenna I usually use.

Weak signal, co-channel QRM, I got the label though.

23rd Aug.

Another attempt to catch Voice Of China on 6030 kHz: This time I used an old EH Antenna for 6 (and 7) MHz which I had used in Switzerland a long time ago when Radio Sweden was testing DRM. Max SNR was 17,63 dB and 2,7% decoded audio. Because of the typhoon T20 I had to place the antenna inside. Very clear and good audio when there was some. Thumbs up for the Chinese engineers.

Yesterday (26th) evening in Japan around 10 UTC I listened to the VOC broadcast, and there was definitely something wrong with the audio. The DR-111 and DReaM with the FRG-7700 sounded the same, like a CD that sort of played out of sync. I'll check again tonight.
