WINB @ 9265 kHz

Although other generic threads exist on the topic of WINB's DRM testing, I decided to dedicate one specifically to this frequency.

Frequency: +
Codec: -
Modulation: -

I'm dangerously assuming that WINB's configuration for this frequency is the same as the one for 15670 kHz.

Nice, Chris. The range can be superb if the return hops occur over salt water rather than a continental surface. The propagation must have been especially good along the path to New Zealand. Summer has arrived in New Zealand, I think. If you're able, please continue to log this frequency. While in Montana, I remember briefly decoding a 5 kW DRM transmission from Brandon, Australia. At least, I think Brandon was 5 kW on 12080 kHz.

Interesting that WINB is beaming towards Europe yet Chris is receiving and decoding the signal in New Zealand.

VOACAP area coverage explains why - because propagation favours the Pacific and at this time, 0900z, there is quite a bit of signal from the back end of the beam (as shown in the attachment).

Again the plot shows predicted reception using a 6ft (1.8 meter) whip antenna.

The orange (brown?) contour represents -121dBW or S6 on the S-meter. Higher gain and/or lower noise antenna systems will show better results.

By the way I've observed that some of the KiwiSDR web receivers, using excellent low noise antennas, are able of decoding DRM at surprisingly low signal strengths!

I'll be editing and posting my log in a bit. I used DReaM on GNU/Linux for this log.

I've attached the edited logs (remember from Linux's version of DReaM) which I can't plot for some reason. Personally, these logs are screwed-up, but maybe Terje can make sense of them.

@ Julian, DReaM's maintainer. The current SVN versions of DReaM are screwed-up in my humble opinion. Since released versions are so rare, development versions ARE required on GNU/Linux so much more careful attention needs to made by the developers in ensuring quality. For example, these damaged logs are from current development versions of DReaM. Furthermore, attention needs to be placed on DReaM's transmitter functions since polling of the devices seems to be screwed-up as well. I'll have to stick with M$ Windows, I guess, until these issues with the current development version of DReaM receive serious attention.

I'm interested in seeing more logs from Chris as I suspect an elevated reflective layer in BOTH hemispheres is aiding the trans-equatorial propagation by reducing the number of hops. We're still fairly close to an equinox as the southern hemisphere approaches summer.
