I wish I had YOUR pension, Terje!

The minimum cost seems to be $50,000 for a lot of 1000 which is reasonable for a run at a factory. I suspect some entrepreneur will do it. I'd like to see if an actual Starwaves' radio matches its German (I think) design. I'd certainly buy one.

does that price include the sticking plaster attaching the display and the fake drm compliant label?

LoL ... Don't expect too much, Ralph, at $50 per unit to produce a run of at least 1000. Even at $150, I'll try one or 3x the price to produce one. I expect problems because the units will obviously be manufactured in China, but I also expect Starwaves to keep quality to an acceptable level, i.e. the unit actually works reliably and performs adequately for a least a couple of years. CDNSE went downhill after Gospell acquired the company so I'm willing to give this radio, hopefully a German design, a chance. I just want Starwaves to ensure that "sticking plaster" keeps the display intact for awhile on those Chinese made units. Hehehe ...

Actually, this opportunity is a good one for an entrepreneur to make some money. It should be easy to sell 1000 units at anywhere from $100 to $150 a piece IF the units function adequately and perform acceptably.

Looks like they have big plans, check out the other models they have displayed on this page:

http://www.starwaves.de/receivers.html

That high end hi-fi unit looks interesting.

I wonder how old those plans are though. The "Milestones" page on that website shows nothing since 2007....

Cheers, Chris

As mentioned previously, I like Starwaves' designs whether old or new. With the proliferation of 3D printers, the style of cabinets isn't a major problem. I want reliable and capable hardware. Can Starwaves deliver? I want this latter question answered by some entrepreneur willing to bet $50k with limited risk. I'd bet someone could sell 1000 of Starwaves' $50 DRM receivers fairly easily at $125 a piece IF those receivers perform reliably and capably.

I know its not DRM, but still an interesting concept:
A DAB+ adapter. You connect this little device, 50 mm in diameter, to your Hi-Fi system with optic cable, or the FM-transmitter to your car-radio or home system.
A little display on the device gives you information about the received station.
Price: 50 .

Alokesh,

Have you personally used Avion's upgraded DRM receiver? If anyone has a review of Avion's UPGRADED unit, please post a link to it. The reduced price of ~ $100 is very nice IF the unit performs reliably and adequately. Competition in the marketplace is good and we're beginning to see results with DRM receivers... finally.
