20kW DRM transmission on 1071kHz from Brest Frarnce

According to a recent report on MW info this 2 year transmission is meant to be starting soon but when who knows, or ever IF I think...
/
Anyone know anything more about this ? It seems a strange reason for starting the transmission in the first place to me

20/07-2016

FRANCE
I have seen official releases by TDF in their new IRIS Headquarters (underneath the Romainville TV/FM tower) which state that some time after 1st August 2016 on 1071kHz from the Brest (48 16 30N 04 09 04W) site there will be 20kW DRM broadcasts for French sailors around Brittany.
I don't know the hours of transmission yet but these broadcasts are scheduled to last 2 years. All of this is thanks to Mauno and Thierry Vignaud.
I assume that the same East mast will be used as was previously used on to carry France Inter.
I will soon be moving house (back to my newly renovated one) so I will be highly involved in that personal diversion over the next 2 weeks. I will try to keep track of DX things but I hope that you will understand.
Dan Goldfarb, mwmast yg (20/7-2016)
[Start time corrected 21/7, thanks to Remy Friess, mwdx yg]

Smartcast on 1071 kHz

Write to smartcast[at]tdf.fr and ask Mr. Roy. He mentioned the MW transmissions in a mail to me, but without any further details except that the tests will be during daytime.

OK thanks I have emailed him. There does now seem to be a transmission but for me not strong enough for decoding which I am surprised about as it's meant to be 20kw ?

I just got the answer that the 1071 kHz transmissions are off until further notice but the 49 m tests will resume from the 29th August.

In fact I was a bit optimistic saying the results were good here .
They quickly deteriorated since my last message.
The audio is from the local station "France Bleu" .
When it works it is of quite good quality
There is little interference from I think an English station on the frequency.
PS : I just noticed that there seems to be a spelling mistake
on the label of this transmission
PS2 : and that Neil spotted it before me

Radio Stations in the UK shows two 1 kW relays in Nottingham and Newcastle, which carry the 'TalkSport' programme.

I'm getting an excellent signal from this at 0110 UTC, really surprised at the strength and quality of the signal, which is giving me a 22.6db SNR and good stereo reception.

Hi
According to their message they are planning 24H/24H diffusion. Good.
Yes here the day time interference is from Talk Sport.
Last night they were helped by others and results were poor.
Glad to see they were good at your location.

Interestingly, as I was listening last night, it went off at 0258 GMT, but I wasn't able to stay up and confirm if this was just a short scheduled break, or a transmitter issue. As you said, it was showing 24H on its display panel.

I just checked them again at 1420 GMT and it's still audible here, though the SNR is varying between 13.6db and 16.5db, so I'm getting some drop outs.

Good going though for just 20kW!
