Radio Kuwait 15540 kHz Reception near Atlanta, Georgia, USA

This afternoon's reception report - 12.67% audio decoded, max SNR 16.99 dB.

The solar storm continues, the US NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center states that we have had S2 and R3 conditions in the last 24 hours and will have G3, S2, and R2 conditions in the next 24 hours!

I decided to use the poor conditions to test the W6LVP Receive Loop Antenna which is "very" temporarily mounted 1.5 m above ground, on a tripod, underneath some trees about 10 or so meters away from the house.

The loop antenna is much quieter than the long wire, and that makes for a higher received SNR which should help to decode more audio!

GR-216 Reception in Naples, FL, USA

Hi - While I could get no copy of this station yesterday, I had good reception
today using a Gospell GR-216 with just the whip. It never really dropped out
at all. I am new to this group and exactly how to send a small enough file to
share, but I can send an MP-4 or still shot of my reception to anyone that is interested.

73s,

Hans Johnson

Hi Hans,

A sincere welcome to the DRMRX Forums!

Congratulations on your reception of Radio Kuwait with the Gospell GR-216. Did you have full decoding for the entire 3 hour transmission period?

The best way to participate and share reception reports is with Terje's DRM Log Plotter which is found at:

http://www.hobbyradio.se/en/drm/plotterdownload_en.html

Unlike analog transmissions, DRM reception is difficult to provide an informative reception report, as the signal is either there with great audio, or not there with silence. This means, for example, that someone might tune in a DRM station for a couple of minutes with good decoding and then tune away thinking that the reception is excellent and report it as such. However conditions might change a minute later and for the rest of the transmission the signal may be silence for the rest of the hour, unbeknownst to that listener!

So for meaningful reports the DRM Log Plotter, using DRM's built-in signal information, provides a clear picture of the received transmission at a particular location. These are the logs that most of us upload.

Terje is always here using his board handle "digger".

I hope all of that is helpful,

Thanks!

Thanks, that was all very helpful. I will examine that in the coming
days and see if I can install that.

Sorry

No, I did not get the entire three hours. I was putting up hurricane
shutters for a neighbor and was only able to spot check it a few
times. I'll learn the record and logging features in the coming days
and get my logs in the right format.

Once again, thanks for the guidance, it was really helpful.

73s,

Hans

There was basically an hf black out at this location with no signals received. Even semi-local analog WRMI on 9395 khz was inaudible for several hours.

Hi Hans,

I know Naples and Marco Island quite well. Looks like the eye of Irma is heading for your neck of the woods. Please do everything to be safe!

The transmission seemed to disappear after about 20 minutes, up until then there was 100% decoded audio. Was this due to the HF blackout that Zyg mentioned?

@Neil, probably as I did not get any signal at all from 13 MHz last night (8th).

This afternoon's reception report - 0.60% audio decoded, max SNR 14 dB.

Ionospheric conditions appear to have improved.

Hi Neil & Terje - Yesterday there was really high hf signal absorption due to the severe G4 storm.

I will give a credit to the Radio Kuwait DRM, because of the long solar storm we are experiencing. Here in Brazil, I'm not receiving the powerful BBC 15400 kHz. : (( Yesterday, 09SEP17, I could listen anything, about 15 dB MER.
