RRI 11650 kHz DRM in South of Brazil 06 June 18

Strong signal (about 14 dB MER) here. If it were 64-QAM would not have decoded anything. I could even mention that the complete broadcast of Radio Romania in Spanish transmits about 43,300 frames, which were fully loaded in this one hour of emission by the Morphy Richards receiver.

Excellent signal in South of Brazil, full program! 44,000 frames decoded and only 103 lost frames.

I like these videos demonstrating the better aspects of DRM via shortwave. It's nice to actually hear as much of the decent quality content as possible in a largely uninterrupted stream from thousands of miles away. DRM on shortwave is truly impressive when done like this broadcast. Now, RRI should adopt the xHE-AAC codec as well as 16 QAM modulation.

It is a spectacle to be able to listen to the Radio Romania International in Spanish in the DRM technology, even in the vicinity of the Brazilian winter and with the propagation so bad ... Nevertheless it follows firm and strong, practically without fail depending on a good reception place. As for xHE-AAC is a problem. There are already few DRM receivers on the market. Today the sale maybe only Gospell, but none with the sensitivity of Morphy Richards, even with a good active antenna. I have only Avion with xHE-AAC support, but the MR does not have it. When I spoke to Mrs. Ruxandra in London, she passed on the contact of the vice chairman, Mr. Alexander Zink, to upgrade my Uniwave to support the xHE-AAC. However, it did not work, it showed only a black screen. He explained to me that the radio had Diveemo technology software and maybe that's why it did not work. Then she passed the messages to the creator of Uniwave who sent me the original software and firmware for xHE-AAC, running only the original software. Thus, I believe that receivers with xHE-AAC as well as DRM + need to mature a bit more, so broadcasters feel comfortable to broadcast on a regular basis.

Good signal in Brazil, even with the bad spread to the schedule, RRI remains exceptionally stable in the extreme south of Brazil. Full program!

I can understand the reticence to adopt xHE-AAC codec until Gospell fixes the outstanding bugs in r 1.4 of the GR-216's software, e.g. decoding which requires high SNR ratios. Also, CSI has upgraded the Avion's hardware so the time is very close for switching to xHE-AAC. Your experience about upgrading the Uniwave's firmware for xHE-AAC is absolutely riveting. Clint, we're very close to the point of needing the xHE-AAC codec and the quality at low bit-rates will be worth the wait. Can you upgrade the motherboard in your older Avion to the latest revision? Maybe, can Philip do likewise? We need a review of the latest hardware from Avion and Gospell needs a stable upgrade to their r1.4 software for their GR-216. I basically agree with you that adopting xHE-AAC currently is somewhat risky due to problems with the current crop of DRM receivers, but the xHE-AAC codec is just too good to ignore any longer. I'd compromise to the point of allowing digital broadcasters to broadcast some programs in HE-AAC+ and others in xHE-AAC, but only for another year.

Hehehe, cool. For me they can already broadcast in xHE-AAC, since in 16-QAM, because the Avion decodes. Who will first broadcast with the new codec we do not know and there are no prospects yet. Well, all you have to do is listen to Radio Romania International in Spanish 16-QAM, which is very good here in Brazil, the rest are hypotheses...

Great to hear, Philip, but CSI needs to reward early buyers with excellent service. I'm looking forward to the results from their new motherboard.

RRI 11650 kHz DRM in South Brazil 22 JUN 18

Strong signal indo Brazil today, the station has been captured without fail every day in Brazil, since it uses the 16-QAM modulation in the MSC, in the great band of 25m. If you used 64-QAM modulation, you would hardly hear the station even with 15dB of gain, since you would need at least 16dB.

Amazing signal registered. MER MAX: 16dB. 16-QAM on MSC is a excellent option.

Strong signal as always. Too bad the battery ran out. Glad they are chargeable! The propagation drops a lot at this time, if it were 64-QAM there would be no sound. Great signal, MER MAX: 15 dB.
