RRI on 5980 kHz at 2300 UTC in DRM

Hi All,

I'm just listening to Radio Romania's 2300 UTC broadcast on 5980 kHz, and again this is in DRM, in spite of the new schedule on their website showing this as AM. The label is showing Galbeni TX1.

Strange happenings on here tonight. I can see the DRM signal and am getting the Galbeni TX-1 ident, but I can also see an AM carrier on the trace, and hear what sounds like an East European station in AM on the receiver. This is killing the DRM signal and preventing anything other than occasional snatches of DRM audio. Usually the DRM signal is very strong on this frequency and dominates the channel.

The only other station that should be on this channel is one in Peru, so I'm wondering if this is some sort of switching issue and RRI is going out in both AM and DRM with different programmes at the same time from different TX sites?

To follow up my own post, the mystery AM station cut off suddenly at 2338 UTC and then the DRM signal came in at good strength again. Looks like someone noticed what was happening and corrected the situation.

Sunday evening 8:05 pm local time (UTC 2335), 18 Nov 2018. Here in downtown St. John's, Newfoundland, I am getting about 40% audio decoding on the RRI Galbenia TX1 DRM signal, English programme.

MER is between 10 and 14 dB on the MorphyRichards 27-24 + 8m wire aerial out the window.
