I had exactly the same problem, with exactly the same solution.

I am counting on their sending them out on the next week or so. They are travelling by Fed-Ex so I hope to receive mine by the middle of the month.

There is an article on the Radio World site about the new Indian receiver:

“During last year we enhanced both the features and the design of the DRM receiver we pre-launched at the IBC2014, in order to best fit consumer expectations,” said Ankit Agrawal, technical director at Communication Systems Inc."

This remark by CSI demonstrates the precise attitude needed for success. CSI apparently recognizes that it must adapt to consumers' expectations. I was pleasantly surprised when CSI decided to delay releasing their new receiver for nearly a year as they upgraded it for the USAC codec. If CSI persists, they'll likely succeed eventually. With the USAC codec now in the DRM standard, nothing is preventing digital shortwave (DRM) from becoming a success

On "Ask WWCR", IIUC, Jerry Plummer seemed to indicate the development of another DRM receiver in addition to Avion's offering. I may have misunderstood, but we'll soon know. BTW, my bank has instituted new fees for international debit transactions so I doubt that I'll be purchasing foreign products unless they're imported to the USA. I wanted to buy the DR-1401.... Aargh, I HATE banks...

A new prototype for a DRM receiver has been demonstrated at the current HFCC conference in Miami, FL. Jerry Plummer was right. Although the name of the manufacturer is questionable, Ray Robinson of KVOH has stated the receiver is made by Pantronix, probably the IC manufacturer in Fremont, CA. We'll eventually sort this matter. The model of the receiver is the Titus II and is based on ARM microprocessor.

Thank your bank which made you save your money by not buying the DR-1401. The lack of feedback from Avion on the problems I have with this product made me publish my review on my web site.

Terje,

It's unfortunate that Avion hasn't yet responded to these problems. I want to read your review. If you have a link to it, please post it. Otherwise, I'll require more time to search for it, but I'll manage regardless.

Hi Tom,
Sure, here it is:
http://www.hobbyradio.se/en/drm/avion_en.html

I'd go for the Titus II instead.

http://drmnainfo.blogspot.com/

It has suddenly caught my interest as it is supposed to be cheaper than the Newstar and even perform better. At least I'm going to order one, if not for anything else, it will add up to my little collection of DRM receivers.

Terje,

Great review! You probably have a revision A board. Personally, I hope that Avion continues to improve their DRM receiver as it is probably the least complex for the average listener. Although, technically minded listeners such as you and me could easily handle an SDR-based receiver, your average joe would probably find them technically prohibitive. Maybe, the proliferation of smartphones has paved the way for a SDR-based approach even among the technically illiterate. I don't know for sure. We'll see if DRM can eventually crawl its way out of its technical crib into the larger world.

If all works out to plan I'll have a look at the Titus II on the 13th November. I have already ordered one for myself.

Terje,

Great. I'll be waiting for your review since I have a few other issues to address first over the next few months. I'll likely buy the Titus 2 as well if purchasing it is straightforward, i.e no PayPal or overseas transaction. I could possibly circumvent the later issue by opening an account with a different bank though.

Terrific! Didn't Gospell assume control of CDNSE recently?

Frankly, I no longer want to hear excuses from broadcasters for NOT broadcasting DRM via shortwave to North America. Several DRM receivers exist with sufficient quality to receive and decode DRM broadcasts. Stop stalling, broadcasters.

The GR-216 would complement my new Sangean HDR-18 (HD Radio) on my table really well ...
