[MW] Pravasi Bharathi 810 kHz from UAE

Is anyone able to decode "Pravasi Bharathi" on 810 kHz from UAE (2000-0100 UTC in DRM)? Very strong signal on the KiwiSDR in Qatar, DREAM shows a SNR of 21 dB, but it does not decode any audio and does not even display the DRM label.

It only shows the technical details:
DRM Mode A, 9 kHz wide, 400 ms, SDC = 4-QAM, MSC = 16-QAM, PL = 0

Here is an IQ-recording:
UAE-00810kHz WAV

Hi Alex,

That must be the 810 kHz transmission from Jabalpur a city located in the central part of India. "Pravasi Bharathi" is an Indian program.

Just like the 828 kHz DRM transmission in Delhi, there is a problem in decoding the audio.

Is there a way to convert the above file into a 12 kHz IF file?

Hi AF4MP,

"Pravasi Bharathi" is indeed an Indian programme, but transmitting from the United Arab Emirates in the Malayalam language for foreign workers in the Arabic region. I received an excellent signal on the KiwiSDR in Qatar, where I also made this IQ-recording.

It is not to be confounded with "Rainbow India" transmitting from Jabalpur in India also on 810 kHz.

Thanks to oh2bfo for the conversion to a 12 kHz IF wav file.

Label: DRM Service A
Mode: A
Bandwidth: 9 kHz
SDC/MSC: 4/16
Interleaver: 400 ms (short)
Number of services: 1
Service 1 ID: 1001
- xHE-AAC, 13 kbps, stereo
- Text

What was meant with "Text" I don't know. There was only one service. The programme contents was "music" of some kind, very overdriven and distorted.
No point to upload any MP3 of that.

Hi Digger,

thank you for these details! How did you decode the file? Is there any possibility to decode this xHE-AAC broadcast with DREAM?

No, unfortunately the current version of Dream does not have xHE-AAC decoding capability.

That is not exactly the fault of Dream as it is that the decoder supplier Fraunhofer IIS has not yet made it available to the Dream community.

As there are a very small number of xHE-AAC capable receivers out there it seems that it is a waste of time and energy to transmit a signal that is undecodable to the majority of DRM listeners.

Hi AlexDRM,

I sent your file to Good Buddy oh2bfo who kindly made a 12 kHz IF file from part of your file. Then I played his IF wav file With Audacity and modulated my Schlumberger Stabilock 4040 set to AM. 6-20% AM is enough. the signal generator's output, about 100 mV, set to f kHz was fed to my Gospell GR-216 which was tuned to (f+12) kHz. Looking through the information in the GR-216 provided the information you read above.
